In Our View: Runners About Town; Olympians Compete at Fort This Weekend

Visit the USA Track & Field Web site (www.usatf.org) and you'll find Vancouver, Wash., highlighted as the place to be this weekend. Really.

That's because many of the nation's fastest cross-country runners and U.S. Olympians will be in our city trying to qualify for the 2005 World Cross Country Championships in Saint Galmier, France. The France gig is the Olympics of the cross-country world (there are no cross-country events in the Olympics), which makes the Vancouver event an awfully big deal. The top six finishers in the open and junior races here Saturday and Sunday earn a spot on the team that will represent the United States at the world championships.
