A Vancouver company has hit a bump in the highway, running short of liquid asphalt during the height of summer road construction.

The situation is so bad that Pierce County announced Tuesday that it has been forced to reduce its summer road maintenance program by 69 percent, shaving some 48 road miles from its efforts this season.
