Summary


Arduous challenges or glorious opportunities? How does the local politician view the long list of demands that have emerged in 2010? It depends on whether youre a glass-half-empty or glass-half-full kind of public servant, whether you see adversity as an adversary or an agent of reform. We suspect that the current economic crisis has most local politicians in a hunker-down mind-set, hoping the long- awaited recovery kicks in soon.

That, though, is just supposition. What were fairly sure of is that, of all the priorities confronting local leaders, bringing a pro baseball team here ranks near the bottom of the list. That assessment wont win any applause from Arch Miller, a prominent local resident. Miller, chairman of the Vancouver-based International Air and Hospitality Academy and a former Port of Vancouver commissioner, has played a large role in the evolution of the local economy. And for many years, he has led an inconsistent and often muted cry to bring pro baseball to this side of the river.
