"I liked stringing the beads to make a necklace. I'd like to be a pioneer girl," said Emma Booth, a first-grader at St. Joseph Catholic School, after participating in a pioneer program May 8.

Kindergarten through eighth-graders learned about the life their great-grandparents might have led. They had opportunities to get in the pioneer spirit as they washed clothes on a scrub board, made necklaces from pasta, carded wool or panned for gold.
