By fall, employees of the charitable dental agency were rushing to cash their paychecks before they bounced. And when board members confronted Momo about rumors of red ink in September, he admitted SmileSavers was $150,000 in debt.

That estimate is quite low. Five months after 61-year-old Momo was fired, however, no one knows exactly how much money vanished under his tutelage.
