CASHIERS, N.C. - The violent remains of Hurricane Ivan pounded a large swath of the eastern United States on Friday as the storm's rampage moved north, drenching an area from Ohio to Georgia, washing out dozens of homes, sweeping cars down roadways and trapping more than 100 students at an elementary school.
At least 12 people were killed and hundreds of thousands of people were without power. In all, the hurricane was blamed for 70 deaths in the Caribbean and at least 38 in the United States, including eight in hard-hit North Carolina.See the full content of this document
