Army Lt. Gen. (ret.) Harry E. Soyster declared Vancouver "fit for duty" when he visited the city last week to look over preparations for honoring veterans from seven states Aug. 26, 27 and 28.

More than that, he praised the extensive planning to honor veterans of all wars, and the city itself as, "one of America's greatest patriotic cities."
