MADRAS, Ore. (AP) -- Plans to expand the Central Oregon Livestock Auction yard are drawing opposition from a growing urban population concerned the yard already is so close to the city limits that people can smell it.

Tom Green, 47, a Jefferson County hay farmer, wants to build a 30- acre feedlot on the hayfield behind the auction yard to house up to 2,500 calves, to prepare them for grass grazing in the summer.
