All the philosophical discussions during the past six months about Vancouver's need for a major performing arts center have generated plenty of enthusiasm. So, who's going to write that first big check?
The Southwest Washington Center for the Arts board of directors, the volunteer group trying to create such a facility connected to Clark College, is asking the city of Vancouver to contribute $60,000 of the roughly $700,000 it received from the sale of the Columbia Arts Center in 2000 for a marketability study to assess the community's needs. It's the first significant expenditure sought by the all-volunteer group in pursuit of a facility that likely will cost $30 million or so.See the full content of this document
