Vancouver's relationship with one-way traffic downtown has been like a married couple who have fallen out of love and just co-exist in quiet desperation. Now, one is moving out.
The romance began back in 1966, when city leaders thought it would be nifty to switch Main Street downtown to one way, primarily to create more parking capacity with angle parking. Since then, there have been various configurations for the three major north- south roads: Main and Washington streets and Broadway.
