Overcast weather scuttled U.S. Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne's plans to fly over Mount St. Helens on Wednesday, but it didn't prevent local U.S. Geological Survey scientists from wowing the new secretary with images of the erupting volcano.
Kempthorne, addressing reporters in front of a roomful of scientists and local federal officials at the David A. Johnston Cascades Volcano Observatory in Vancouver, shared a sequence of repeat photographs taken from June 24 through Tuesday.
