Hospital Clears State Review; Funding Safe

Summary


Southwest Washington Medical Center will not lose Medicare and Medicaid funding, according to hospital officials, after an unannounced state survey this month found it to be using proper procedures regarding patient restraint and patient rights.

The survey was conducted Jan. 11 by the Washington Department of Health, acting as an agent for the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services. It was a follow-up to another that stemmed from patient complaints and led to citations against the hospital for improperly documenting the use of patient restraint, failing to promptly process patient grievances and not having an appropriate system for reporting alleged abuse to local law enforcement.
