For more than 120 years, Vancouver bore the mark of injustice for the Nez Perce Nation. The memories created over the last eight years, however, have been those of respect, understanding and forgiveness.

Nez Perce members gathered with local officials and veterans Saturday, as they have since 1998, for an annual healing ceremony. They exchanged gifts and passed a pipe on the site, east of the Vancouver Barracks, where they believe an infant tribal member was buried.
