The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has fined a Battle Ground-area developer $30,000 for clearing trees and grading 6 acres of wetlands near Mill Creek in 2004 and 2005.

Michael Achen and CMK Investments agreed to the $30,000 penalty in a settlement agreement filed with the EPA on March 27. The EPA asserted that Achen violated the federal Clean Water Act by discharging fill material into the wetland, which flows from an unnamed ditch into Mill Creek.
