Summary


As if the true meaning of Christmas didn't have enough to compete with given all the shopping, baking, gift-giving, Christmas-card sending, tree lighting, family squabbling and fruit-cake tossing that goes on this month a lot of people have allowed themselves to become mired in the politics of Christmas.

Instead of just telling Christmas naysayers to go camp out in a pear tree for the rest of the season, many Americans get their stockings in a twist when the word Christmas is traded in for "holiday." (Never mind that "holiday" comes from "holy days." That kind of defeats the purpose of tossing out a perfectly good word such as "Christmas," no?)
