PHOENIX -- A female prison guard released after 15 days as a hostage thanked Arizona officials for not rushing into the cinderblock guard tower where she was held, saying it would have meant her death.

Gov. Janet Napolitano and Corrections Director Dora Schriro met the guard when her medical evacuation helicopter landed at a Phoenix hospital after the standoff ended at the Arizona State Prison Complex-Lewis, about 50 miles away in Buckeye.
