MADRAS, Ore. (AP) -- Genetically modified turf grass moved a step closer to being commercially grown as the deadline for public comment on Roundup Ready Creeping Bentgrass passed.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is poised to issue a decision on the grass developed by the Ohio-based Scotts Company and grown in test plots by Madras-area farmers.
