The Columbia River Gorge Commission could face a 20 percent cut in its 2005-2007 operating budget as a result of action Thursday by the Oregon House of Representatives.

Gorge officials said the proposed cut, coming on top of a 20 percent budget reduction it absorbed during the current biennium, could cripple the bistate panel's capacity to carry out all but the most basic functions.
