CHICAGO (AP) -- Boeing Co. is negotiating a settlement with the Justice Department in which the defense contractor and airplane maker may pay the government as much as $500 million to avoid prosecution in two federal investigations, a published report said Friday.

The Wall Street Journal, citing unidentified sources, said talks are ongoing and a final agreement is expected to take at least several more weeks to put together.
