PORTLAND -- The Portland Trail Blazers have at times been so inept at free-throw shooting this season that it was easy to wince sometimes as they stepped up to the line.

But while the Blazers are still the NBA's weakest free-throw shooting team at 68.7 percent for the season, an improved performance at the line made the difference in the five games leading up to Wednesday's home game against Denver.
