Bits 'N' Pieces: Tree Brings Gift That's Larger Than Expected

Jennifer Larson and Courtney Barker had doubts anyone would bid on the 7-foot tree they decorated for the auction held Nov. 25 as part of the Festival of Trees at the Hilton Vancouver Washington.

"We really did worry no one would buy it because we're not professional designers," said Larson, an investment and finance specialist for the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust in Vancouver. Barker is the marketing and community events manager for Corwin Beverage Co. in Ridgefield. Larson and Barker were red-faced as the auction proceeded. Not from embarrassment, but from amazement that their tree was locked in a bidding war. The tree sold for $3,200, the highest price paid for any of the 38 trees auctioned as part of the Vancouver Rotary Club's annual fundraising gala.
