Johnny Green Jr. is not a training-wheels kind of guy. After the 4-year-old Vancouver boy picked out his new bicycle and helmet, a volunteer waited with wrenches and screwdrivers to fit the bike to the boy.

"I don't need training wheels," Johnny told bike mechanic Bill Moyers. "I know how to ride a bike."
