It's scientific name is the "Vaccinium membranaceum," which sounds like some yucky medicine or an obscure body part rather than the tasty and much-sought-after wild mountain huckleberry.
Fortunately, the Gifford Pinchot National Forest staff appreciates the hallowed status of the berries and their recreational as well as nutritional value.
