Sculptor Sumi Wu wore a brown, calf-length, 1940s-vintage dress and heels to the unveiling last week of "Wendy Rose."

That public art, destined to be placed on the Columbia River waterfront, abstractly depicts the transformation of women during World War II through clothes, and Wu, lead designer on the project, wanted to celebrate its completion by wearing something era- appropriate.
