Democrats may be at the helm of the House and Senate budget committees, but reversing Bush administration policies that have helped drive the federal budget deep into the red won't happen overnight, says U.S. Rep. Brian Baird of Vancouver, who sits on the House Budget Committee.

President Bush is scheduled to present his 2008 budget to Congress on Monday. On Jan. 26, Democratic congressional leaders sent Bush a letter appealing for the administration's help in balancing the budget and planning more realistically for the cost of the war in Iraq.
