In Our View: Annexation Tone Shifts; County, City Officials Check Their Mirrors

Summary


Maybe this annexation feud between Clark County and Vancouver is just seasonal. In the same week that brought a break in the rainy season, there appears to be a slight thaw in the big quarrel, at least in the rhetoric.

Warning! This is highly preliminary! Don't unzip the confetti bag just yet. But these recent comments from both camps are not as incendiary as last week's. According to Thomas Ryll's story in Wednesday's Columbian, county commissioners Marc Boldt and Steve Stuart are remorseful and apologetic about the way they disbanded the Boundary Review Board last month. And well they should be, after hearing from Ronald Morrison, who served six years on the board helping make sure both sides handled annexation properly. "Here we are, two weeks later with nothing," Morrison said Tuesday. "Not a letter, not an e-mail, not a phone call. That's bad practice. --- I think the citizens deserve better. I think I deserve better."
