Sheriff Seeks Jail, Deputy Funding; Commissioners Asked to Help Ease 'Escalating Pressure'

Last year, 2,039 misdemeanants and low-risk felons were released early due to overcrowding at the Clark County Jail. So far this year, the count is nearly 1,700 and could reach 2,900 by December, Sheriff Garry Lucas told the county commissioners Wednesday. Spokesman Tony Snow has used variations on the phrase at White House press briefings.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and legislative Democrats. The agreement marks a clear break with the Bush administration and puts California on a path to reducing its emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases by an estimated 25 percent by 2020.
