Virus Symptoms Pop Up at School
About 135 people at an Evergreen elementary school were absent Monday with the norovirus symptoms that also have sickened about 60 people at three senior-living facilities. About 120 students and 15 staff members at Ellsworth Elementary School stayed home Monday with vomiting, diarrhea and nausea.
Imagine thousands of people living on the pumice plain below Mount St. Helens, close enough to feel the ground tremble from the ongoing eruption. Clark College Faculty Holds No-Confidence Vote On Branch
Clark College faculty members have cast votes on a "no- confidence" resolution over the future of President Wayne Branch. The action comes just weeks before the community college's trustees are to receive an independently contracted job review and make their own decision on his status. The outcome of the unusual, highly secretive vote was not known by late Monday.
National Guard to Patrol Border
WASHINGTON President Bush's new plan for fixing the nation's immigration woes is an old-fashioned carrot-and-stick approach. The stick comes in the form of 6,000 National Guard troops dispatched to the U.S.-Mexico border to help support efforts to apprehend foreigners trying to sneak into the country. The carrot goes to millions of illegal immigrants already working in the U.S. who would get the chance to become citizens if they were willing to pay a fine and back taxes and learn English.
