LOS ANGELES -- Gerald R. Ford, who picked up the pieces of Richard Nixon's scandal-shattered White House as the 38th president and the only one never elected to nationwide office, has died, his wife, Betty, said Tuesday. He was 93. Teenage Hit-and-Run Victim On Mend

The last thing Loren Smith remembers before waking up in the hospital last week is walking out of a bowling alley, his father, Rob Smith, said Tuesday. The 15-year-old Mountain View High School student, who also goes by Loren Cochran, was in fair condition Tuesday, six days after he was struck by a black Toyota 4Runner or pickup with a canopy on the evening of Dec. 20. He was thrown 50 feet by the impact and suffered two broken legs, a neck fracture and a head injury.

Tree Crushed Man's Body, but His Spirit Remains Solid

Simonn Marsh was lying propped up in his convalescent bed, surrounded by his wife, mother and father, as they leaned forward, straining to make out what he was trying to say. "What ... do ... you ... call ... where ... I ... am ... now?" asked Marsh, 26, a Clark County electrician who was critically injured by a falling tree about five months ago.
