Blaze Destroys $1.5 Million Yacht ; Fire Also Sinks 2 Other Boats, Scorches 3 Boathouses

PORTLAND An early-morning blaze at the Columbia River Yacht Club destroyed three boathouses and sank three yachts. One of the boats was said to be worth about $1.5 million. Firefighters responded to 37 N.E. Tomahawk Island Drive on the east end of Hayden Island at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday to find one boathouse engulfed in flames and two other boathouses catching fire.

Another Meningitis Case Suspected; Adult Not Linked to Child Who Died

County health officials were investigating another case of suspected meningococcal disease Wednesday, following the death of a young child Tuesday. The Clark County Health Department said Wednesday that a case of suspected meningococcal meningitis in a young adult was reported that morning.

Plane Feared Crashed; Skamania Site Searched; Cessna Vanished As It Headed to Tacoma

CARSON Searchers in Skamania County late Wednesday were battling 7 feet of snow and dense fog in a search for a twin-engine Cessna 421 CW aircraft that disappeared from Federal Aviation Administration radar screens over rugged terrain northwest of Carson. FAA officials said the plane had been overdue to land at Tacoma Narrows Airport and they lost radar contact at 1:45 p.m. The plane, with tail number N69KM, is registered to Sugar Financial Inc. in Scottsdale, Ariz.
