Man Arrested in Calls to Radio Host's Wife ; Lars Larson's Spouse Says Caller Threatened to Rape, Kill Family

Vancouver police on Wednesday arrested a 38-year-old man who allegedly telephoned the wife of radio personality Lars Larson 27 times on one day with threats to rape and kill members of the Larson family. Bret Alan Harter of Portland made arrangements to turn himself in at the Clark County Courthouse on Wednesday morning, Vancouver police said. Harter was arrested on suspicion of two counts of felony telephone harassment and five counts of misdemeanor telephone harassment.

Local Hilton Nears Capacity ; Hotel's Web Site Directs Diners Across River

The Hilton Vancouver Washington hotel was at or near capacity Wednesday for the second night this week. Gerry Link, the hotel's general manager, said several small meetings and summer travel were pushing the city-owned hotel toward its 226-room capacity, but he wasn't sure every room would be occupied Wednesday.

Nasa Plans Tuesday Shuttle Launch Despite Problem with Gauge ; Electric Grounding Suspected at Fault

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. NASA will try to launch Discovery on the first shuttle mission in more than two years Tuesday, after tracing last week's fuel gauge failure to, most likely, an electrical grounding problem lurking inside the spacecraft. Shuttle program manager Bill Parsons said the only way to thoroughly check the system is to fuel Discovery and have all its equipment running.
