Weekend

Broncs & Booms - Family-Friendly Events Hold Forth Over Fourth of July Weekend, Including Vancouver Rodeo and Bull Bash, and -- Of Course -- Fireworks

At first glance, there doesn't seem to be much of a link between (cherry) bombs bursting in air and steers wrestled to the ground. Still, two of Clark County's signature summer events not only take place the same weekend, but also share a common heritage.

Dining Out - Hurley's: Small Portions, Big Taste

Take the Sweet Pea Flan, a bright green gift. Molded into a miniature emerald geodesic dome, the custardlike creation arrives on a large white plate. The molded flan ($12) takes the stage and tastes like early summer English peas, though, generally, peas' flavor leans more to subtle than to strong. Tiny queen oyster mushrooms surround the flan, a fork full of prosciutto sits on top, and truffles' earthy flavor sings through the sauce.
